Shenton Group has the CAD experience, certifications and the latest software to produce Revit family files and RVT project files for new and existing customers. We have produced an extensive range of TEDOM CHP Revit models and accessories to meet the need of our clients, ranging from 7kWe to 2300kWe.

All of our BIM models are level 2 compliant and meet the construction industry standards.

Ongoing assistance throughout the project is available from our team of dedicated CAD/BIM engineers and CHP generator experts.

What is BIM?

BIM (Building information modelling) tools such as Revit are technically CAD programs; however, BIM is a process and methodology which enables teams of architects, manufacturers and contractors to collaborate and design everything required for a building or complex, where they are all working off the same database and computer model, no matter what part of the world they are in.

It does this by allowing the separation of real facilities like; HVAC, Mechanical equipment, Plumbing, Electrical, Walls, Windows and Ceilings, by showing them in a digital representation.

This practice allows the lead team/contractor overseeing the project, who has the central model to analyse and visualise the design and make decisions on the go, even before the physical ground is broken.

Why Use BIM and Revit Produced by Shenton Group?

BIM is now being used globally, and the UK construction industry is using the BSI (British Standards Institution) BIM strategy as a framework to ensure all models meet specific criteria for their products and services.

BIM’s software and tools that have been produced to streamline the design of buildings, and allows analysis of sustainability and the impact on the surrounding areas using real-time modelling.

Shenton Group has been the ‘go-to’ provider of CHP Revit models since 2017. Supplying to organisations and contractors such as the British Army, NHS, financial sector, Telecoms Manufacturing, Retail & Distribution and Education to name a few.

Having a dedicated design department Shenton Group ensures Revit family models are accurate and concise. All Revit files contain the relevant COBi data required by the Government and provide an exacting product with specific data. These files are at your fingertips to download into your designs and ensure functional and energy-efficient requirements are met. We also assist our clients by producing space planning RVT’s.

Bespoke Models to Download into Your Project

Aside from producing and supplying Revit families and BIM objects, we offer a bespoke CAD/Revit RVT modelling solution, where customers can leave the modelling of the CHP(s) and associated equipment to us, and we will create an RVT project file of our equipment to link into your central model.

BIM Model Maintenance

All models Shenton Group produce are maintained keeping the drawing dimensions and COBi data up-to-date. We ensure you have reliable accurate models when you need them, so you don’t have to go finding them elsewhere, or producing them yourselves.

Keeping Team Morale High – March’s Colleague of the Month Goes To…

It has been a difficult time for many with the current COVID-19 pandemic, that’s why it is important to keep spirits up! Nearly all of our office-based staff are working from home now, and we have a reduced number of engineers out servicing critical sites. Our team have pulled together in this time of need and are still working hard and doing a great job!

It is that time again where we announce who has been voted for as our colleague of the month. Now this individual has been noted for his excellent advice and helpfulness. He is always there to lend a hand when you need him. We say congratulations to Andrew Ball, one of our generator project engineers!

Andrew has been with the company for seven years, assisting with the installs of large generator projects for clients all over the country. He has a reputation for always being positive, friendly and knowledgeable on-site. Colleagues have said that Andrew is a problem solver, and he is an asset to every project.

Initially coming on board as a fully qualified electrician, over the years Andrew has trained with Shenton Group into the position you find him today. He goes above and beyond for his colleagues, sharing useful information, he is a real team player.

Engineers like Andrew are still out serving critical clients in this current situation where most are at home, so we give him an extra special thanks for providing that service and supporting key workers.

We hope you enjoy the bottle of bubbly and vouchers Andrew! Keep up the good work!

Stay safe all, stay home.

7 Tips to Stay Efficient and Keep Your Spirits Up While at Home

Now that your routine has changed to you leaving the house as little as possible, it is still important to have a routine. Here are some top tips to get the most out of your day, whether you are working from home or not!

1. Getting dressed changes your mindset

Simple things such as washing and getting dressed will not only improve your state of mind, it will psychologically prepare you to start the day.

Just like changing out of work clothes when you come home, that process starts the mindset of winding down and tells your brain subconsciously that the working day is over. Similarly, getting up in the morning and wearing respectable clothes increases motivation.

Nearly everyone at Shenton group that is office-based is now working from home. Every morning our sales and marketing team have a video call, everyone is wearing a uniform, and we discuss our plans for the day. One – discussing our plans for the day makes us accountable. Two – wearing something smart is such a simple thing to do to set you up for the day mentally. Plus we are still having sales meetings and contact with clients, so it is handy to be looking presentable for those video meetings.

2. If you are working from home establish boundaries

If you are able to work from home, it is essential to be strict with the hours you work, keep to the hours you would work in the workplace. This helps to give your day structure and keeps you focused.

Having a dedicated workspace that keeps distractions to a minimum also helps keep the right mindset. When it comes to your workspace, ideally you would have a properly adjusted desk and chair, similar to your workplace.

3. Get out and exercise (if you’re not self-isolating)

You should try and get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air once a day. It doesn’t help anyone’s mental well being staying cooped up inside all day.

A different perspective will also help undo mental blocks and give you a fresh pair of eyes for any tasks you’re struggling with. It has also been proven that people who exercise get better sleep.

4. Pick up the phone or video call

If you’re working from home, then chances are you’ll be alone, so you won’t get the usual distractions of colleagues or office noises. Whilst at work, you are more likely to interact with colleagues, whereas when working from home, you might not speak to anyone all day which can be isolating.

Make a conscious effort to check-in with colleagues and friends for a chat. Nowadays, it is quite common for people to hide behind a screen to communicate. Pick up the phone and have a real conversation; the sound of someone’s voice is much more stimulating and can be more productive than numerous emails.

To keep morale up, once a day some of our teams across the company meet on Skype to catch up. It is a great way to keep that team spirit and enthusiasm. Not to mention, most of us are very social and miss the office buzz.

5. Take regular breaks

Research has found that short breaks throughout the day are more beneficial than less frequent, longer breaks. You need to get up and have some time away from your screen to rest your eyes and stretch your legs, just as you would in the workplace. Even if you are not working from home, it is good to switch up what you are doing and move around.

6. Keep hydrated and eat healthily

It is very easy to slip into the trap of eating junk food on the sofa if you can’t go outside. Everyone knows that junk food causes our blood sugar levels to spike and fall, leaving you very sluggish and tired. Try to eat a healthy balanced diet and drink water regularly. It will do wonders for your mood and waistline!

7. Do something positive in your free time

As the majority of our time is now spent in our houses, what tasks could you tick off at home? Everyone has jobs that they have been putting off. Maybe there is handy work around the house to do. Perhaps you have wanted to upskill with an online course but have never had the time. Here is a list of positive things to do at home that seem quite simple, but we often forget the moment some free time occurs. Let’s use this time wisely!

  • Call and re-connect with old relatives
  • Build a family tree
  • Decorate
  • Sort out the garden
  • grow your own fruit and veg
  • Do an online course – Learn something new!

Maybe you would just like to kick back relax and finally start reading that book you have had on the shelf for years. Take some time for you. Connect with the loved ones that you live with. If you have kids, create fun games and activities to do together as a family. This is the time that we crave for whilst we are at work, so let’s make the most of it!

All of the things that we have discussed above will help you in creating a new and positive routine as well as help keep your mind and body in check. Initially, it might seem challenging, but if you stick at it, it will soon become your norm.

Good luck, and stay safe.

From all of us here at Shenton Group.

Statement Regarding Work of National Importance

At a time of heightened anxiety in the UK, we felt it wise to be clear as to the current activities that Shenton Group are involved in, and how these comply with the Government instructions.

Shenton Group has a dedicated team including Board and Senior Management members constantly watching all developments with regards to the current Covid-19 pandemic and the various restrictions put in place by the British Government.

We maintain, monitor, and take responsibility for a number of Generators and CHP’s on key NHS sites, Education Campus’, National Water Boards, and Data Centres, all of which are regarded as sectors of National Importance. These sectors rely on having back-up power available 24/7/365 to assist in a time of a power outage.

A number of clients have identified Shenton Group as key supply partners at this time and have requested that we remain open and operating. Therefore Shenton Group’s engineers are operating around the country on these key sites, albeit in slightly reduced number.

Regards,

Jody B. Meek

February 2020 Colleague Of The Month…

February’s colleague of the month has been chosen for her problem-solving abilities, knowledge and the support she provides to her team. “The team would be lost without her” explains a colleague. This employee has not been with the company long, but she has made quite an impression – congratulations Chloe Bungay Maintenance Team Leader for Generator & UPS!

Chloe joined the Shenton Group family in November 2018 initially as a Project Management Assitant, then in March 2019, she moved into her current role. Noted as “always smiling and having a positive attitude”, Chloe has been voted for by a colleague for “making a real effort to make me feel so welcome when I was new to the team,” and “supporting me with everything in my new role.”

Chloe’s role is varied and reactive, working closely with our clients to ensure that their generators and UPSs are maintained effectively. You never know what kind of call will come in. One minute she could be scheduling service visits, the next she could be on the phone to engineers. With engineers all over the country providing support, this requires a highly organised individual to keep everything in check.

We asked Chloe how she finds her role and her time at Shenton Group:

“No two days are the same, I am always busy, and I enjoy coming to work. I work with a great team and for a fantastic company. My team are hardworking, and we always have a laugh which makes the days fly by!”

We thank you once again for all you bring to the company Chloe. Enjoy your bottle of bubbly, voucher and premium parking space. Keep up the excellent work!

It’s Time to Say Goodbye…

It’s time to say goodbye, but I think goodbyes are sad and I’d much rather say hello. Hello to a new adventure.” – Ernie Harwell

Our most wonderful, kind, reliable Lorna is leaving today to start a new chapter in her life. How do you say goodbye to someone that means so much to everyone?

You do what any good Shenton Group get together involves, lots of food, cake, flowers and balloons!!!

We are sad that we have to say goodbye to one of our best colleagues but we are excited that she gets to say hello to her next adventure!

Lorraine, Lorna’s manager commented “What can I say about Lorna? I can’t believe I actually have to let her go to get MARRIED!! I have told her, she knows how wonderful I think she is. She is reliable, amazing, outstandingly good at what she does and as a team, we will miss her terribly both personally and professionally”.

Lorna started with Shenton Group straight from college 1st September 2010 firstly on our reception for 4 years and moved to the Generator Rental Department and has been there ever since, improving and exceeding targets year on year.

We asked Lorna about her role at Shenton Group “I have enjoyed the variation of work of which my job role brings in; you can never plan a day without the unexpected and unknown calls and projects that can swiftly land then require prompt attention and sometimes turn your day upside down for the good or the bad”.

What will you miss? “I will miss the whole team at Shenton, the family atmosphere, and mostly the good-humoured banter that keeps us all going!”

We asked Curtis our Sales and Marketing Director to talk about Lorna, “Lorna has been an outstandingly loyal member of staff throughout her 9 and a half years at Shenton group. Hard working, efficient and always on hand to help. Lorna has served many a customer with robust Power Rental solutions. Lorna also had many hidden talents from a wicked sense of humour to making incredible cakes! She will very much be missed as she leaves Shenton Group to get married and start her new life in Grimsby.”

Lorna Thank you for everything that you’ve accomplished so far, and good luck to everything you will in the future.

Congratulations Alan McClure – Generator Rental Engineer!

January 2020’s colleague of the month award goes to….

Drum roll please…. Congratulations Alan McClure – Generator Rental Engineer!

Alan has been voted for by the Shenton team for having a positive attitude in all he does, assisting in all sort of tasks, and often thinking of cost-saving solutions. Thanks so much for your efforts!

Dealing directly with clients, Alan is one of many engineers that drive all over the country providing reliable power and generator expertise. There isn’t much he hasn’t done in the company!

Having worked for the company now for 5 years, he is a valued member of the team. Moving around in different departments, Alan started out in generator servicing, then went on to work in CHP servicing for 18 months, to where we find him today in Generator Rental.

A Peek into the Life of a Generator Service Engineer

When a rental is due to go out to a client, it is Alan’s job to ensure it arrives to the site safely, he connects it up and ensures its in full working order. Once the generator is no longer needed, Alan would return and take it away again.

If the rental is for a long duration of time, the generator would need refuelling, and if a fault occurs, Alan would be on hand to take care of this.

When Alan is not out serving our rental clients he is out servicing generators on the maintenance side, providing valuable services such as load bank testing and fuel polishing. These services help to keep our client’s generators functioning and reliable.

Alan explains:
“What I enjoy most about my job is that every day is a different challenge.”

Sum up your role in 3 words:
“interesting, unpredictable and satisfying”

We thank you once again Alan for doing a great job. Congratulations, and enjoy your bubbly and vouchers!

The last of 2019’s colleague of the month awards have been announced!

Last but not least… December’s colleague of the month has been chosen because she is always happy, chatty and super helpful. Well done Cloe for winning colleague of the month for the second time in 2019!

Cloe has been with the CHP Department at Shenton Group for four years and spends her day dealing with customer call-outs, working with our engineers, CHP resetting, preparing service reports and invoicing but never knows what her day will bring! “I enjoy all aspects of my job. With our call outs, you can never predict what is going to happen, so it certainly keeps me on my toes!”

We asked Cloe how she finds working at Shenton Group:

“Shenton Group has a real family feel, and It’s so much more friendly in comparison to anywhere I have previously worked. Everyone is so approachable whatever their role is within the company. Other places I have worked made me feel uneasy to speak to managers and especially directors, such a contrast to being here. It’s so much nicer coming into work every day and working for a company that wants its employees to be involved.”

Cloe has an infectious laugh, beaming smile and you know that if you ask her to help or do anything, she’ll be more than happy to help. Thankyou Cloe for all your hard work and efforts and enjoy the vouchers, bubbly and NO1 parking spot all of January. Keep up the excellent work!
