Background

Ilona Rose House, set in the heart of Soho, London, is a 31,0,00sqm new-build project spread over 13 floors, including four below ground. With a build cost of £100m, the development will contain shops, restaurants, bars, offices, residential apartments, a gallery and a nightclub.

Shenton Group supported the consultant, Thornton Reynolds at the design stage, working in tandem with their design team to provide a preliminary design for the backup power solution to RIBA stage 4. Shenton Group had full design responsibility for this portion of the package, which allowed the consultant to incorporate our design into the scheme for the client to move forward with.

Project Overview

Once Gratte Brothers were elected as the Mechanical and Electrical contractors, Shenton Group engaged in a detailed design process completing all of the necessary drawings and BIM models. This ensured that the installation was clearly thought through and defined before the equipment arrived on site resulting in a smoother project delivery.

Due to space constraints on-site, the Generator and associated equipment was dismantled into smaller components, lowered into the basement and rebuilt on site by Shenton Group’s specialist engineering team.

A fifty-metre exhaust flue from the basement to the roof was installed along with a plate heat exchanger and a remote cooler fed by duty standby coolant pumps.

With the site located in the heart of London, detailed coordination with logistics and other services was required to keep disruption in the area to a minimum. Every stage of the project was overseen by a dedicated Shenton Group Project Manager.

Outcome

Shenton Group designed, supplied and commissioned a 1850kVA backup power solution. The Ilona Rose house development is now fully supported by a reliable backup power system in the event of a mains outage.

The site teams and design teams were very efficient and a pleasure to work with. It was a very rewarding project to be part of and the client’s expectations were exceeded!
