Overview
A global market leader in financial spread betting relocated its headquarters to London. Reliable continuous power supplies were, of course, a priority for a business operating within the financial sector. The organisation turned to Shenton Group which provided a synchronised pair of 1250kVA standby generators and further protection in the form of a comprehensive maintenance and support contract, therefore protecting the company from any power outages.
Problem
As is the case with most organisations operating within the financial sector, customer services, data integrity and indeed overall business continuity all rely on continuous power supplies. As the National Grid announces some of its lowest reserve power levels in recent years, financial organisations that do not plan their uninterruptible power supplies stand to experience compromised business with the probability of black-outs and brown-outs seeming much more likely, especially as greener replacements to the country’s outdated coal power stations are not coming online as quick as their predecessors are being decommissioned.
Shenton Group’s Curtis Meek details challenges that faced the client; “With such a large percentage of the client’s business relying of its online business, its data centre, financial dealers, IT and customer services were operating precariously with no guarantee of continuous power. It was clear that any power-cut would have a detrimental effect on the running of the company.”
In order to continue operations of all areas of its business, the client had to ensure that power quality is assured at all times and that their numerous computing systems are able to work throughout the worst possible mains failure scenarios.
Solution
The project was won on a competitive tender and recommended by the customer’s consultant, shentongroup and its sub-contractors provided the company with a complete turnkey solution, including generators, installation work, commissioning, all further supported through a shentongroup service and maintenance contract.
The backbone of the solution comprised two Sterling series 1250kVA generators housed in weatherproof, super-silent canopies, thus ensuring no break in power. Synchronised together, the two generators provide an N+1 configuration for greater resilience, controlled through a dual mutual control system and a remote monitoring unit.
The customer’s IT Procurement Manager qualifies why his company opted for Shenton Group to deliver their continuous power supply solution: “We shortlisted three companies for the project but chose Shenton Group as it has a reputation for quality and price”. He added; “The decision to choose Shenton Group was also validated by an independent valuation of the three proposals. We have been delighted with the service provided by Shenton Group and the professionalism of their engineers”
Outcomes
Because of the two Sterling series generators being synchronised, the client now enjoys freedom from the risk of power outages. In addition, for extra peace-of-mind, Shenton Group provides the client with a comprehensive maintenance and support package.
The client now enjoys operating without the fear of its business being compromised by increasingly probable power outages.
