Overview
When a busy producer of quality meat products experienced a major fire, instead of closing its doors it turned to Shenton Group which rapidly supplied it with standby generators within hours. The solution was supported by fuel tanks, refuelling and fuel polishing services, enabling the business to become rapidly fully operational once more.
ProblemAlthough an unlikely event, when disaster does strike an organisation, it’s power supplies are often affected or completely taken out of operation. In many cases, this spells delays or a complete cessation to services and business operations.
A major fire ripped through the facility of a major meat producer which relies on continuous power supplies in order to operate lighting, machinery and refrigeration.
Determined that its customers would not be affected by the disaster, the client looked for ways of getting its business up and running again as quickly as possible and therefore contacted Shenton Group.
Solution
The customer’s Maintenance Manager explained the steps his company took following the fire: “We contacted our electrical contractor; they in turn called Shenton Group mid-morning. The generators were quickly in place and we had power the same day’.
Shenton Group’s Sales and Marketing Director, Curtis Meek followed up: “Shenton Group’s emergency generator service is the ideal solution for any organisation facing a disaster. With depots throughout the UK, Shenton Group engineers can have emergency generators onsite and operational within a matter of hours”. Curtis continued: “Shenton Group rapidly supplied generators ranging from 50kVA to 500kVA, as well as bulk fuel tanks, distribution boards, changeover panels and cabling”.
To support the emergency generators, Shenton Group provided a refuelling service, ensuring that the continuous power supply remained in operation. As an ongoing service, Shenton Group also undertakes regular servicing, fuel deliveries and fuel management as part of an ongoing service contract.
Outcomes
Because of Shenton Group’s rapid response, arriving onsite within a matter of hours, the meat production unit had power restored that very same day and was back to full production within just two working days.
The client now benefits from a reliable, continuous power solution. It also has the assurance that, as part of an ongoing service contract, Shenton Group will ensure the smooth and ongoing operation of the solution, providing servicing, refuelling, as well as technical and maintenance support 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.
Confirming his satisfaction with the outcomes brought about by Shenton Group, the customer’s Maintenance Manager stated: “Shenton Group’s service has been first class”.
About Shenton Group
Shenton Group is the UK’s leading technical expert in standby power, uninterruptible power supplies, and combined heat and power supplies. The company provides power solutions to organisations spanning a broad array of industries that rely on continuous power supplies and includes; finance, telecoms, healthcare, IT, manufacturing, retail, education, government, utilities, and sport and leisure.
Shenton Group’s standby generator range includes single and three phase generator solutions, ranging from 10kVA to 3.2MVA. Being British built to the highest quality and safety standards, Shenton Group generators are ideal for use as prime power or standby power supply usage. All Shenton Group diesel generators include; a full range of weatherproof canopies to meet sound attenuation levels; proven industry-leading control systems and switchgear hardware; integral bunded base-frame fuel tanks and fuel management systems; containerised modular solutions; custom built drop-over acoustic canopies; and skid-mounted ‘open’ sets for specific applications.
Shenton Group provides a range of DEFRA-approved bulk fuel tanks, including plastic fuel tanks and double-skinned steel fuel tanks. Polyethylene bulk fuel tanks are maintenance-free, fully-bunded and are OFTEC and DEFRA certified. They are available in capacities ranging from 1220 litres to 5000 litres. Shenton Group’s steel bulk fuel tanks are purpose built and double-skinned. They are manufactured to BS799 part 5 and comply to both statutory pollution prevention PPG2 and DEFRA regulations.
As well as providing fuel and fuel tanks, Shenton Group also undertakes a service referred to as fuel polishing. Because diesel is an organic compound, it is liable to deteriorate over the course of time, leaving sediment in a diesel generator’s tank. Fuel polishing restores valuable diesel supplies to optimum condition, removing any contaminants. The benefits of fuel polishing include better generator functionality. Without regular fuel cleaning, generator power can be reduced, the filters and pistons can become clogged and the prospect of complete generator failure is more likely, something that can result in expensive repairs to your backup power system.
